Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has announced that all full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates will now be eligible for mobilization into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This resolution, which addresses the long-standing issue of HND graduates being excluded from the NYSC program, was shared in a statement issued on Thursday by the ministry's Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
Alausa explained that, following discussions with the NYSC Director-General, only full-time HND graduates would be eligible for mobilization. This marks a significant breakthrough for full-time HND graduates who were previously left out of the program. The minister emphasized that the decision reflects the Federal Ministry of Education's commitment to fairness, equity, and inclusivity in the nation's education system.
However, part-time HND graduates will not be eligible for mobilization. To streamline the process, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has been instructed to expedite the collection of data for eligible graduates. A circular has also been issued to polytechnic rectors, directing them to upload graduate data to the newly established HND admission portal.
Alausa reiterated that only full-time HND graduates would be mobilized, and the new portal would ensure accurate documentation and serve as the official database for NYSC mobilization, addressing previous challenges with graduate records.
He urged all eligible full-time HND graduates to take advantage of the opportunity and proceed with their mobilization promptly, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all qualified Nigerian graduates to contribute to the nation's development through the NYSC scheme.
